SERVICES

The services provided by The Textile Conservancy are divided into two catergories: Practical Conservation and Consultancy.

A brief overview of the services covered within these two disciplines are outlined below:

 

PRACTICAL CONSERVATION

The practice undertakes the conservation of a range of textiles, including tapestries , rugs, historic costume and mixed media object such as painted banners.

  • Cleaning and repair of damaged textiles
  • Construction of display mounts to aid support and interpretation
  • Preparation of objects for long-term storage

CONSULTANCY 

Condition surveys are carried out for collection or individuals objects they include:

  • Full description and condition assessments
  • Treatment recommendations
  • Treatment estimates

For collections, a condition survey can form the basis for a conservation strategy that will address the long-term needs of objects.

The Consultancy Service also provides information on:

  • Preventive conservation strategies
  • Display, storage and handling requirements
