The services provided by The Textile Conservancy are divided into two catergories: Practical Conservation and Consultancy.
A brief overview of the services covered within these two disciplines are outlined below:
PRACTICAL CONSERVATION
The practice undertakes the conservation of a range of textiles, including tapestries , rugs, historic costume and mixed media object such as painted banners.
- Cleaning and repair of damaged textiles
- Construction of display mounts to aid support and interpretation
- Preparation of objects for long-term storage
CONSULTANCY
Condition surveys are carried out for collection or individuals objects they include:
- Full description and condition assessments
- Treatment recommendations
- Treatment estimates
For collections, a condition survey can form the basis for a conservation strategy that will address the long-term needs of objects.
The Consultancy Service also provides information on:
- Preventive conservation strategies
- Display, storage and handling requirements
- Advice on pest management
