A pair of silk Oriental rank badges were displayed on card mounts. As the board was not conservation-grade, it was important that they were re-mounted. Removal of the border mount showed that the top corners had been cut from the badges. In addition, the top edge was missing. |
| The top edge of the badges was protected with an overlay of dyed silk crepeline. The areas of loss were repaired with patches of silk fabric that also provided a visual in-fill. The rank badges were supported onto undyed Thai silk. Acid-free tissue paper tabs were used to mark the beginning of each line of conservation stitching. The photograph documents the location of each line as a reference of the work carried out. | |
| The treated rank badges were attached to a conservation-grade stretcher that was covered with layers of cotton domet and calico. The fabrics provide a secure cushion for the historic textiles. | |
